Go-Ahead CEO recognised for sustainable transport efforts with award from European CEO
The Go-Ahead Group’s dedication to sustainable transport has been recognised with a new award for chief executive David Brown.
The award - European CEO’s Best CEO for Sustainable Transport - is a reflection of wide-ranging efforts to promote environmentally friendly travel across Go-Ahead’s bus and rail companies.
Judges on the European CEO Panel hailed Go-Ahead’s efforts to provide innovative new solutions in transport.
Judges said: “David Brown has been exemplary in leading one of the UK’s biggest transport operators towards a cleaner, greener future.
“A dedication to improving air quality and tackling climate change is visible across Go-Ahead, and that can only come from having a CEO who fundamentally believes in the cause.”
Go-Ahead is the operator of one of Europe’s largest fleets of zero-emission electric buses, and last year, the business launched a new air filtering bus which actively cleans the air as it travels through the streets of Southampton.
This has contributed a 22% reduction in Go-Ahead’s carbon emissions per vehicle mile over the last two years, and the business is on track for 25% reduction by 2021.
The business has led the way in innovative new modes of transport designed to limit congestion on urban streets, including the pilot of a demand-responsive service in Oxford, which has already been expanded due to its success.
Go-Ahead chief executive David Brown said: “As a company we recognise the impacts of climate change and the need for us to do more to be part of the solution. Travelling by bus and rail helps address congestion and air quality, and this award recognises the efforts we are putting in to make our business even more sustainable.
“We are proud of our track record as an innovator in responsible, community-focused services. Go-Ahead colleagues around the world should be proud to be part of a business that is rightly seen as a force for good in sustainable transport.”
